Day 10 - 810 miles
Today was a long day!
I am currently staying outside Dallas, which is 810 miles (give or take a few) from Valparaiso. 810 miles! I know that may not be monumental for some, but I feel quite accomplished. Anyway, let’s start at the beginning!
I started around 6:30, but I didn’t want Jon’s apartment to be messy from my time there, so I did his dishes and vacuumed the floor before I left. My first big city that I passed was Pensacola. I kept going passed Pensacola on I-10, passed Mobile, AL, and then to my first big decision of the trip.
I-10 leads to New Orleans, but it wasn’t the quickest way to my destination (Houston, TX), so instead I opted for the straight route, which was taking I-12 to Baton Rouge, then getting back on I-10 the rest of the way.
Along this route, I made a only 3 stops: 2 to fill my gas tank (which has gotten cheaper along the way) and one in Abita Springs, LA. Abita Springs is home to Abita Breweries, for all you beer purists out there. Although I couldn’t find the brewery, I did find a pub which I stopped in at and took a look around. Had I company with me, I might have been more tempted to eat lunch and have a quick brew, but instead I opted for something more light for lunch (see pictures below).
Around 4:30, I arrived in Beaumont, TX, which was to be my last stop before Houston. I opted instead to drive the rest of the way to Dallas, which was another 4 1/2 hours away, just so I could have a comfortable bed to stay in (thank you Mr. and Mrs. King….as well as Lindy).
Now I know that I deviated from my original plan by cutting out Houston, and I didn’t get to explore much, but I took some good pictures, and tomorrow I will be in Dallas most of the day, and then move on to Austin for the night. I have some surprise destinations that I *might* be going to, but you will just have to follow along till then.
